Columbia Surgery
Surgery Explainers
Going in for a procedure can be nerve-wracking, even worse if you don't fully understand the procedure and expectations. Columbia University Irving Medical Center reached out to find an animated approach to provide clearer information for their patients. We took a deep dive into dense surgical material, procedure videos, and patient stories to distill a collection of animations that Columbia could use to help educate and provide an overall better experience for their patients.
Character Exploration
Character Design
A pivotal part of the series came down character design. Each patient was designed around their respective topic or precoedur. For example, our diaphragm character was intentionally barrel chested to draw attention to the respiratory system. By tkeeping this in mind and building from there, we were able to create a choesive eco-system of characters for both patients, family, and doctors.
